ORANGE COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART
Newport Beach, CA

The Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach wanted a new image of a dynamic and cutting-edge contemporary art organization. The design included re-planning the public interior non-gallery spaces, creating a statement entry, adding a new café, and an exterior area for "night at the movies" in the sculpture court. The functional deficiencies of the current space – including lighting, sun control, glare and acoustics were addressed. The 6,500 SF interior pavilion/central public space provides improved acoustics, light levels, art exhibition and visual impact. Through the use of innovative forms and materials, these goals were achieved in a cost-effective manner.

UC Irvine - Institute and Museum for California Art
Irvine, CA

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) established the Institute and Museum of California Art (IMCA) following the acquisition of two important collections of California Art: The Buck Collection and The Irvine Museum Collection. IMCA aspires to be a dynamic center for the study, presentation, and appreciation of California Art—the creative output forged by the state’s distinct features, history, peoples, and natural environments. I was brought on as the lead designer at Bauer Architects for the schematic and program phase of the project. We developed a schematic design to study the stacking diagrams and intradepartmental adjacencies for the institute and museum. We met with each department head to develop standards and room data sheets. We had plans and design development concepts to back up each room layout.
